As Conquerors continues to both grow and exists her needs are too. Our present day staff situation is unable to care for the needs of our church. So we have the challenge of hiring more staff or letting the needs of our church go unmet. The former is unpractical, the latter is unacceptable. So what is needed is a decentralized system within the church that can release the laity to minister within the church with adequate spans of care. This is not some new revelation on our part. Actually this based on Jethro's advice to Moses in Exodus 18. This will provide a strategy through which everyone within our church is cared for.
Now, as this model of ministry is gradually adopted by departments within the church, the quality and quantity of care will be increased, volunteer turnover will reduce, and structure that can support exponential growth will be established. Our small groups, then, will become the vehicles through which ministry here at Conquerors will be delivered. Everything from helping individuals with car repairs, yard work, home repairs, to cleaning our facilities and providing meals for our corporate fellowships, to discipling believers and evangelizing unbelievers, to caring for children and helping seniors, will be done through our small groups. These small groups shall not be viewed as a department within the church; these small groups will be the church --- in its smallest unit.
Biblical Purpose
Our purpose for small groups is found in our primary emphases; biblical discipline and providing care. We aim to disciple people, through teaching them the truth found in The Word of God, help them to develop spiritual disciplines and understand the Christian faith, and become disciplers of others. But our aim is also to care for each other, by way of prayer, encouragement, and the meeting of the needs of each other. This we know will helps us to fulfill both the Great Commission (to make disciples of all nations, Matt. 28: 18-20) and the Great Commandment (to love one another, John 13: 34-35).
